Hi, I’m Wes O’Donnell
My story starts in Dallas, Texas in 1977. After an extremely rough childhood of poverty and abuse, I joined the U.S. Army Infantry, 101st Airborne Division in January of 1997.
The Army endowed me with key traits that, until then, I had been missing: discipline, self-reliance, and common purpose. After leaving the Army in 2001, I would enroll into the North Texas Police Academy, graduating with honors as a TCLEOSE certified peace officer in the State of Texas.
Then 9/11/2001 happened. The twin towers fell and I felt that I could better serve back in the military. I joined the Air Force until 2007 when I separated after having spent roughly 10 years on active duty between two branches.
I would work for corporate America at Siemens, Aramark and IMRIS, all in the medical industry, while I earned my BA in International Relations and my MBA with a concentration in IT Management.
By 2011, I was confident that I could start and run my own business. I started MD-Advantages Modular Medical Carts in Dallas, Texas leveraging my skills and network from my time in the medical field.
After selling my design for a modular medical cart, I began to set up e-commerce sites. The first was Modern Workspace, a traditional dropshipping store that sold compact office furniture and medical carts. The second site was Warrior Lodge, an informational resource for active duty servicemembers and veterans which generated revenue from Google Adsense. At its peak, Warrior Lodge was earning $30,000 per month in ad revenue.
Many more e-commerce stores would follow and other methods of e-commerce would be explored. More recently, I set up a directory site where local businesses must pay to claim their business listing. In hindsight, this type of e-commerce would work better as a niche, like real estate.
After moving from Texas to Michigan in 2014, I began teaching entrepreneurship at Baker College. A speaking and coaching career soon followed. I exploited a knack for marketing, PR and reputation management.
My singular passion now is helping other people achieve what I have. There is absolutely no reason why you can't become wildly successful and look good doing it.
