This is just one battle in an otherwise large war, but we should talk about it because you can almost feel the tension in the video I’ve embedded below.

The clip opens the way a lot of modern Ukraine war footage opens now: quiet woods, snow, muted colors, and that slightly unnerving sense that something bad is about to happen to somebody who has no idea they’re already late to their own funeral.

Also, let’s pause to appreciate the awesome snow camo ghillie suit one of the Ukrainian operators is rocking.

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces say this happened on the Northern Slobozhanshchyna front.

This area of the front (covering border areas of Sumy Oblast and bordering Russia’s Kursk Oblast) remains an active, though not the primary, sector of the battlefield. Although it still has frequent high-intensity aerial reconnaissance and artillery duels, with Ukrainian forces occasionally conducting counter-offensive actions and clearing enemy positions.

The SOF story is simple: aerial reconnaissance watched a Russian route, identified where troops were bunching up, and then a small SOF team slipped behind Russian lines, planted explosives at those concentration points, and got out.

The detonation and the damage came after the team was already gone. SOF says the result was Russian losses and a severed infiltration route in that slice of the front.

Here’s the clip Ukrainian SOF shared. I love their epic Michael Bay music lol:
