The global defense industry is no stranger to innovation born from necessity, and Ukraine is proving it once again.

At the IDEX 2025 arms exhibition in Abu Dhabi, UKR ARMO TECH has made a bold entrance onto the international stage, unveiling its latest combat-ready armored vehicle—the GYURZA-02.

For Ukraine, this isn’t just another military hardware showcase. It’s a statement.

A battle-hardened nation, facing one of the most intense conflicts since World War II, is now exporting the lessons learned on the battlefield to the global defense market.

Ukraine is recovering from a self-imposed set of export controls enforced by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense (MoD). These rules—put in place at the start of the war—essentially prevent any military equipment from being sold abroad unless the government grants a rare exemption.

The result? Ukraine’s fledgling defense tech industry is stuck in a holding pattern, reliant on a single, cash-strapped customer: the MoD itself.

“Our Western allies are searching for weapons for Ukraine all over the world,” says Halyna Yanchenko, a Ukrainian lawmaker leading the push to change these restrictions. “Meanwhile, our private companies are producing them right here, but they can only sell to the Ministry of Defense, which doesn’t always have the money to buy them.”
