Dear Wes, thanks for the article! Very informative as always.
I’ve read somewhere that Ukraine needs hundreds, if not thousands of APSs.
There is also a lot of information that Russians are slowly running out of their soviet time IFVs (BMPs), and can only produce about 400 new ones per year.
So, how much difference can 42 vehicles make on the battlefield?
It’s definitely better than nothing, but still… How many of them, from different countries, Ukraine got in 2024? And how many it will need in 2025?
I went back and looked at all the articles I wrote here and at Medium in 2024, plus my YouTube videos. Here’s my answer. Ukraine received over 3,000 APCs from allies in 2024. This number does not count what they built at home.
Donations from Allies:
United States: As of January 2024, the U.S. committed to providing Ukraine with 1,999 armored High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) and an additional 300 M113 APCs.
Sweden: In September 2024, Sweden announced the transfer of 200 Pbv 302 tracked APCs to Ukraine.
Germany: By the end of December 2024, Germany had delivered 66 APCs to Ukraine.
Netherlands: On June 7, 2024, the Netherlands committed to building 180 APCs for Ukraine.
Canada: In April 2024, Canada pledged to deliver 50 Armored Combat Support Vehicles to Ukraine, with the first 10 expected to arrive in Europe during the summer.
Australia: Throughout 2024, Australia delivered 56 M113AS4 APCs to Ukraine and a bunch of Bushmaster mine protected vehicles.
Belgium: From September 2023 onwards, Belgium provided 40 M113 APCs to Ukraine.
Denmark: In July and August 2022, Denmark delivered 54 M113G3DK/G4DK APCs to Ukraine.
Slovenia: In April 2024, Slovenia delivered 26 BOV armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.
Latvia: In February 2025, Latvia pledged 42 Patria 6×6 APCs to Ukraine.
Bulgaria: By March 14, 2024, Bulgaria had sent all promised armored personnel carriers to Ukraine but undisclosed numbers.
These contributions amount to a big influx of APCs from various international partners, but UKR also makes some domestically:
Novator-2 Vehicles: In July 2024, Ukrainian Armor delivered an initial batch of Novator-2 vehicles equipped with electronic warfare systems to the Ukrainian military.
Oncilla-Shturm APC: By November 27, 2024, the Ukrainian-made Oncilla-Shturm APC was approved for military use, marking a significant milestone in domestic defense manufacturing.
Khorunzhyi APC: On September 2, 2024, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense authorized the delivery of the Khorunzhyi APC, a modernized version of the Soviet-era BTR-60, to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
While specific production numbers for these domestically manufactured vehicles have not been publicly disclosed, the total donated number confirmed in 2024 is: 3,013 APCs (excluding the undisclosed Bulgarian contribution).
Why are all these European countries giving armored vehicles, advanced weaponry and other expensive items of war to Ukraine? Don't they realize, like Donald Trump, that Ukraine never had a chance against the Great Bear, the formidable Russian Empire?
They must have missed that memo or else are reading Russian propaganda or American faux-factual media news reports. And Spymaster Putin and his proteges are very good at putting out their mostly-fictional portrayal of their invasion of sovereign Ukraine.
Look at the job Putin did on our weak-minded, gullible President. Only took a few phone calls and they're buddies once more.

Facts, real facts. Gotta love 'em!
Wow! Thank you so much for the so detailed answer! It's much more than I expected 👍
Thank you Wes. How well does it hold up against drones?
Thanks for this article!

How would these compare with the Bushmasters from Australia? They seem larger than the 4 x 4 Bushmasters. Is that the main difference?
