Thank you Wes. I didn't read your July 2025 post but feel I have a firmer grasp. Now if you could only explain the NYSE (or TSX) with such understanding. Bottom might be falling out of your 401K today. Strait of Hormuz.

Tell me about it, Sue. This insanity must end.

Good job Wes! I have what most would consider an in-depth knowledge of Artificial Intelligence but I lack the DoD context which you provide.

I believe you could refine your point of view on frontier AI systems, you down play their capabilities a bit. It’s OK for this piece and your analysis is spot on concerning purpose built architectures for AI systems with the military and defense use case. It is transferable to other use cases, autonomous vehicle operation for example.

Keep up the good work, I learn a lot from you.

Thanks for this, Wes. You're among the ten or so authors I read on Medium, Concis, Patreon and others. Another source is Shankar Narayan who recently penned a column comparing Britain's public collapse around the Suez Canal in 1954 with the United State's debacle playing out now in the Strait of Hormuz. The point was that Britain had long before ceased being a great power, but it took the refusal of other nations to support its closing of the Suez to make it public. The US may have also been on a decline internationally, but it's now there for everyone to see thanks to Trump's failures in the Middle East. However, I wonder if the comparison is apt. Britain was still recovering - and slowly at that - from the devastation of World War II. The US meanwhile has remained the largest economy and biggest military in the world. It is also the center of AI research and development and has pivoted to integrating AI into its military, economy and society. I can understand how the US's reputation, standing and performance have suffered under Trump, but your article suggests that we have a more robust foundation than Britain had seventy years ago.
