It won't be long before Russia has something like this and is able thereby to successfully neuter UAV attacks on key oil and gas-related facilities.

UAV technology is advancing so fast on both sides that it's like a game of chess, with advantage moving regularly from one side to the other, with each side working to overpower its enemy.

My hope is that Ukraine will be able to create its own laser- and/or microwave-enabled UAV killers in such quantity that it can defend successfully every major town and city as well as essential infrastructure.

I don’t know for certain. But I would be amazed if such a system was not infested with circuitry and software. Items Russia cannot produce itself.

China however has no such problem. Quite the opposite in fact. It has drastically reduced the technology gap between itself and western countries. So, if it doesn’t already have a system like this, I have no doubt it will in the near future. Most likely aided by the industrial scale IP theft China routinely practices.

Yes, and regrettably (& disgracefully) they’ll sell it to the Russians

I’m sure they may want to. However, even China couldn’t deny such a system is military. So such a sale would breach the sanctions on Russia.

Perhaps if a peace treaty is reached?

Send a few of these to Ukraine ASAP. Canada 🇨🇦 would like a few as well.

This may be a perfect solution to dronephobia at civilian airports across Europe. You only need a single unit per airport to eliminate any drone incursions, whether the drones are intended to collect intelligence (for Russia) or are merely meant to be a nuisance (caused by Russia).

Sorry, but I’m on a rant. This will presumably be available to all except Israel. Amirite?

Wes; a personal note. I value your contributions to information-space. But, although I agree your input is valuable, I am a semi-retired pensioner. Limited income, you know? I do have a small company to keep things comfortable. So, while this is a thank you note for what you bring, it is also my personal apology for not upping to paid subscription status. I have to be careful with my pennies.
