I was an Army nurse from 1989 to 2005. BDU’s and combat boots never fit me very well. Kudos to the Canadians for acknowledging reality. . . and doing something to remedy that!!!

I know there is some room in the Uniform standards to buy your own gear - boots for example, and bras for women. How much Canadian Combat kit can a female US Army or Marine soldier outfit themselves with? Since they are NATO, does that make it any easier?
Hey Paul, in the U.S. Army at least, service members can usually buy and wear some commercial items, boots, socks, gloves, cold-weather layers, pouches, that sort of thing, as long as they’re approved and don’t break uniform regs. In the Air Force, I bought my own Under Armor t-shirts for the flightline because they were more comfy. The big-ticket items that matter most for protection like plates, carriers, helmets, and most issued uniforms, are generally controlled issue for liability, ballistic certification, and standardization reasons.
The Canadian military is the prime example of the maxim never to piss off the nice kid. The nice kid is considerate and pays attention. They have the discipline to wait their turn and even let others who are in a hurry cut in front. They will put up with discomfort for you.
But when they see you bully another kid (or even worse, bully the nice kid him or herself) the nice kid will come after you. They have been paying attention so they know where to hit you where it hurts and how to f*ck up your life. They have the patience and discipline to wait. They will hurt you in ways that may not even show - they don't need to prove anything to anyone. You will not be able to intimidate them. If you stop them now, they will come for you later.
Putin better apologize and make amends. He really pissed off the wrong people this time.
