Ah yes, the Russian threat that has no analogue because Russia has no meaningful coastline to hit. The Brits have plenty of Trident missiles that can dance past the useless S-400, particularly if the Russians have none left which Ukraine is rapidly making a reality. This masturbatory fantasy of the Orc turds is tiresome. If Russia can’t stop dozens of slow moving drones smashing its oil industry so completely that 80% of their gas stations are empty, I don’t think they’re going to excel at hitting Mach 20 incoming from Britain’s small but capable sub fleet. Back before Ukraine we believed Russia’s AA tech was robust and perhaps superior to Patriot. That little chestnut has been fully roasted on an ocean of HIMARS, ATACMS, and Storm Shadows. Yes, I suppose we could all fret that Putin will elect to end the world if his Special Needs Operation collapses his regime. Maybe that;s what Ratcliffe was in Moscow to chat about.
Yes but remember, Article 5 is only a promise to consult and obligates no one to do anything other than talk. The notion that it is a magic invocation of a full blown military response is a fantasy… the idea that the French would instantly enter a nuclear war is pretty amusing. They would more likely be looking for ways to sue the Brits for the effect of fallout on the coming harvest of the Grands Crus. Five years into a full blown land war in Europe, no one in Europe has yet to develop a long-range missile. Germany’s legendary Taurus sits sheathed in one of its vanisihingly rare launchers waiting.. perhaps for Germany to rebuild Norstream.
Fantastic commentary on a pretty amazing machine… even if it is mostly fabricated by the Kremlin. Some pretty outlandish claims though. Quietly chugging along at 100 kts… impressive 😂
Thank you this. The problem for Russia is still the same: we can’t use it. If we use it we start a nuclear holocaust. So the only use is threatening. I think they should do it better than this, because this simply isn’t credible. If they have this why not use it (sans nukes) against Ukraine in the Black Sea?
If a weapon like this did detonate near a naval facility like Porthsmouth or Devonport, what do you think would be the radius for damage? Live near Highcliffe for reference!

Not to mention an attack on the UK would invoke Article 5 of NATO. The French have their own independent nuclear force...

No one said it would be instantaneous.
I would hope that a nuclear attack on the UK would concentrate NATO's collective minds to swift action.

Great reporting / briefing. Thank you.

I’m way out of my comfort zone, but this seems a large expensive weapon to attack coast line.
Is there any analogy of an aquatic drone cloud sensing aquatic noise of the Poseidon and converging on the target to take it out.
Ukraine seems to be doing it in the air.
Small cross-section bodies would face less resistance if motors exist to propel them.
