Will foreign bombs hitting Diego Garcia be subject to the tariff imposed by the Trump WH? Or perhaps I got this backwards...would USAF bombs leaving Diego Garcia be subject to tariffs on goods coming from Diego Garcia? Absurd, yes, but the island is on the list of countries subject to increased tariffs. Seriously, does Diego Garcia actually produce anything? I'm thinking of a sewing operation for souvenir t-shirts or similar.

I'm sure Pete has been thinking long and hard, and strategically about the lack of aircraft shelters and the vulnerability of U.S. military assets.

That the Brits pay millions to maintain. Then Trump puts tariffs on UK. Think we should sell it to china cos we sure as hell ain’t getting a good deal from him!

I could not agree more. I've been suggesting the same with Australia's air bases that we will use in a war with China. That is, if we don't go to war with Australia. You know the "allies before enemies" Trump strategic plan. Bc "I know MORE than the generals".

The F-47 got mentioned? Is it operational in any way yet?

According to Trump it’s been flying for five years. It’s unclear if that’s in reference to prototype models or early operational birds.

Didn’t the UK announce it was giving Diego Garcia back to the indigenous population? If they come back to the island any time soon, I can see how the USAF might not want to invest in new infrastructure of any kind.

Is this just a Trump power play or something more..

As the economy continues to slide, it becomes worse for him because he appears to have lost control of the story. His followers expect some new kind of engagement everyday and he always needs to appear the Strong Man in these. This may produce the pressure on trump to do something extra dramatic. …..Maybe bomb the Iran nuclear facilities. This is something both Putin and Netanyahu are trying to maneuver him into but for very different reasons. Netanyahu is looking to neuter his only serious military threat and Putin is hoping to see the US weakened and distracted by another decade of war in the Middle East. I wonder how much they have collaborated….Trump may be enough of a sucker for them to get him to pull the trigger. It appears all the military assets are in place for this in another couple weeks. Things would go from bad to much much worse if it happens. I sure hope I am wrong about this.

Oh, now I understand it, him starting WW3 is his cherry on his already shit sundae. We won't have to worry about the economy because nuclear war just obliverates all debt.

Diego Garcia is not only a place most Americans couldn’t point to on a map. They would not know that it is also on a British Indian Ocean Territory. Considering that Trump has just applied a tarrif to Diego Garcia, perhaps the Diego Garcia/UK could put a 100% tarrif on all imported US goods? Fuel, spare parts, food, etc. etc.

Not a very bright idea to move these resources to an island that can be easily obliterated with a tactical nuke with minimal collateral damage. Given our current status with our allies, no one will lift a finger to help us.
