Cool concept. Anyone who has dealt with mosquitoes in the dark is familiar with tracking sound and hitting at something you can’t see well. I imagine the same counter measures will be implemented.
As a concept it is brilliant, despite its obvious difficulties.
Perhaps it would work best as a swarm concept, with a dozen different versions, each sensing different criteria, with combined data creating a combined model to monitor or map or identify, for example. As a distributed swarm the noise itself would be difficult to locate, the slight visibility would be diffused over a few m2, and there would be no target to aim at.
But then there is the other extreme; would the same concept work at 1 metre, or even 3 metres diameter? The fear factor of the noise but little visibility would be considerable, and the kinetic energy of rotation itself could be harnessed in various ways.
You mention the noise as a negative to be ameliorated, but perhaps it can be a feature. The sound of a mosquito has a 'fear effect' disproportionately greater than the mosquito's physical impact, and I am reminded of the Roman 'War Horns' that were used to terrify the enemy before a battle commenced. Invisible drones with a mosquito-like whine or buzz might be effective to already-scared troops.
I look forward to hearing more about this, and its future developments. It seems like a good joint Ukrainian/European/Canadian development project.
