A risk adverse NATO and weak over cautious leaders in West Europe, and the US, easily intimidated by Putins bluffs, Europeans bickering amongst themselves, can not even produce enough artillery heads for Ukraine to keep Russia at bay. Not even North Korean troops are a red line for Nato to intervene. Send in nato troops to relieve Ukraine military from logistics, transport, repair and training. Form a second line a few km behind the Ukraine front lines as a red line for Russia to cross or attack. This war could have been over by the end of 2022 had nato acted decisively and halt the Russian incursion right there snd then, while the russian army was still weak and disorganized. The West was fortunate in 1940 to have leaders like Churchill, Roosevelt , Truman. The west needs them now.

Very hard to get this viewpoint over to the blinkered and self-obsessed. Not only those of an alternative conspiratorial persuasion but those who can’t see the relevance to everyday life, even those in Europe who should know a lot better. So many today seem to be cutting themselves off from not just mainstream media debate and opinion but almost any time-served proven news source. It’s like a threat to be kept at arms length to them…

Regarding the ships and the Baltic cables. Finland just confiscated the ship that took out Estlink2 - https://x.com/chuckpfarrer/status/1873481726837899553

I expect that will be the case for any other cable break in the future. Even a rusty old cargo ship is a significant investment and losing it is not a good exchange for cutting a cable.

In fact I would be entirely unsurprised if St Petersburg and other Baltic ports become effectively blockaded if this continues, which will be a major problem for Russia

I wouldn’t agree that a rusty old shadow ship is in any way worth a cable-cut, least if all several cables…which will take many months and many millions to fix.

I do agree, Russian Baltic ports need blockading if these types of ships continue their uninsured trades or dodgy ‘accidental’ anchor accidents.

Very well said, Wes. There are things we can do as individuals to help Ukraine. Keep letting your senators and congressman know that there is support for our ally among their constituents. Donate to organizations like Razom:

https://www.razomforukraine.org/

Another is Come back alive: https://savelife.in.ua/en/donate-en/#donate-army-card-once

These are just two, there are more. You can help make this a happier new year for those fighting for freedom.

The inertia of Europe and NATO frustrates me even more than the inertia from Democrats to legally pursue trump and his phalanx of criminals.

There's this certain football team based in Columbus that has been hit by that asteroid every November for four years running. So sad for them.

Go Blue.
